William Travis Ross
February 11, 1969 - July 30, 2023

William Travis Ross, known to all as Travis, age 54, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on July 30, 2023, in Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service in memory of Travis will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Colfax Cemetery at 4:00 PM. Following the graveside service, the family will be hosting a time of food and fellowship at the First Baptist Church in Colfax, and all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the American Heart Association. Online condolences can be made at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

Travis was born to Wendell Ross and Judy (Case) Ross on February 11, 1969. Even though his birth name was William, Judy was adamant that he be called Travis. In his kindergarten class, nobody said a word when “William Ross” was announced for roll call. Travis loved to wrestle, and after graduating from Colfax-Mingo High School in 1987, he went to wrestle heavyweight for Southwest Missouri State. Travis worked as a carpenter, and he was exceptional. He was the definition of a “fix it” guy.

Travis loved many things during his life. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and he was an even bigger Iowa Wrestling fan. He loved watching his son, Hunter, wrestle and seeing his daughter, Sydney, play softball. Travis was a movie guy. He loved a good 80s rom com and would watch a movie anytime he could. Every year, he would watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” with his family, and he would recite the entire script right along with the actors. Although Travis was a quiet man, he was full of personality. He was always joking around and was not afraid to laugh at his own joke if nobody else did. Sydney said her dad secretly had a huge heart for those around him, he would never outwardly admit that though. Travis’ kids meant everything to him, and he was a loving father to both of them. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.

Those left to honor Travis’ memory include his two children; Sydney and Hunter Ross of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, his siblings; Dianna (Terry) Gioffredi of West Des Moines, Iowa, Leanna Ross of Altoona, Iowa, and Aaron (Rhonda) Ross of Colfax, Iowa, and his parents; Wendell and Judy Ross.
