Again diphtheria that destroyer of the young, has done its work of death. On Monday afternoon of this week, Alice, the youngest daughter of Mr. W. S. Vance, passed away from this world, after an illness of over a week. The funeral services were held at the house at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by Edward P. Allen, pastor of the Congregational church. Mr. J. B. Burton, Dr. Pez, Mr. Will Adair and Mr. T. J. Russell formed a quartette which sung the sweet songs of hope and comfort. The song “Jesus is tenderly calling” which was a favorite with little Alice and was among the three hymns sung. When she was passing away she expressed her sweet childlike hope by saying that she wanted to ‘go and be an angel with Jesus’ but she wanted mama to go with her. May the Lord console this grieved family in their sad affliction.
