John F. Brown Died Friday At Home In Colfax's
Funeral Services Were Held Wednesday Afternoon
John F. Brown, 68, died at his home in east Colfax Sunday, having been in failing health for many months. Mr. Brown had been a resident of Colfax since 1928 having been actively engaged in faring in the county prior to that time.
John Franklin Brown was born to Preston and Julia Brown, now deceased, in Marion County, Iowa, May 18th, 1869 and died at his home in Colfax, September 25th, 1938 at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 9 days.
He was married to Luvada Carpenter November 10th 1897 in Marion county. They settled in Elkhart, Iowa and in 1910 moved to Jasper county, which place has since been their home. Mr. Brown was actively engaged in farming until 1928 when they moved to Colfax.
Those surviving are his wife, Mrs. Luvada Brown, five daughters, Mrs. Edith McDaniel of Colfax, Mrs. Opal Hodgson of Colfax, Mrs. Anna Yoakum of Colfax, Mrs. Ethel Daniels of Mitchellville and Mrs. Faye Gallagher of Colfax and one son Floyd Brown of Newton, three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Renfro of Mitchellville, Mrs. Adeline O’Matley of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary McDaniel of Monroe, Mrs. Ellen Seevers of Monroe, and one brother, William Brown of Colfax besides twenty-three grandchildren and other relatives and friends. One sister, Mrs. Ellen Seevers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Cutter-Hartnett Chapel with Rev. Albert van der Ploeg officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Geo. Robinson, B. F. Van Dyke, Mrs. Jack Rinker and John Davis, with Mrs. Ross Frasher, accompanist.
Pall bearers were Fred Rorabaugh, Sam Lester, Robert Wilson, John Tomlonovic, L. W. Faidley and Geo. Terpstra.
