Funeral services for Mrs. Edward (Marguerite) Holland, 88, of Heritage Manor, formerly of 247 N. 3rd Ave. E., a longtime resident of newton, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Reese Chapel.
The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today, Jan. 4. The casket will not be opened at any time.
Memorial contributions to the Jasper County Historical Society or the Newton Animal Rescue League may be left at the funeral home.
She died Wednesday evening at Heritage Manor.
Among survivors are three cousins, Hugo Schulz and Clarence Griebeling, both of Newton, and John Carl of Kellogg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1955, a brother and a sister.
Mrs. Holland was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, a charter member of the Newton Animal Rescue League and a member of The Book Club of Iowa.
Mrs. Holland had been a secretary to the Jasper County Attorney, a secretary for a firm in New York City, secretary and later head of the sales promotion department of the Automatic Washer Co. in Newton and following her husband’s death, had been employed by the Iowa State Commerce Commission in Des Moines.
The daughter of Albert and Dena Weseman Carl, she was born Feb. 3, 1896 in Newton, was graduated in 1914 from Newton Community High School and attended Drake University in Des Moines.
She was married Aug. 10, 1938 in Newton.
Mrs. Holland had resided in Newton until 1938 when she moved to New York City. She returned to Newton in 1951.
