Funeral services for Bradley J. Nida, Sr., 43, of 320 W. 8th St. S., will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Mike Schaffer of Denver, officiating. Burial will be at McKeever Cemetery in rural Mingo.
Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after noon Thursday. Family visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to Progress Industries in Newton will be accepted.
Mr. Nida died of cancer, Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Kavanagh House on Grand in West Des Moines.
The son of J. L. and Helen Shirley Burch Nida, he was born July 21, 1954, in Newton. He graduated from Mingo High School.
He married Christine “Chris” Nida, June 8, 1974, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mr. Nida was raised in Mingo, then joined the United States Army and moved to Colorado where he was married. He was then transferred to Germany. He moved back to the United States, to reside in Ft. Knox, Ky., back to Germany, then to Ft. Stewart, Ga. where he retired and moved to Newton in 1984.
He was a retired staff sergeant with the U.S. Army. Following retirement he was employed by Progress Industries and the Jitney Bus service as a driver. Also, he was a Girl Scout Leader for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bradley, Jr. of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carrie Nida and Michael Stout of Des Moines; his parents; a brother, LeRoy of Iowa City; three sisters, Kathy Osborn of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Linda Braun of Mingo and Bobbi Etter of Kellogg; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
