Colfax – James Matthew Murphy, 64, of Colfax, died of heart failure, Tuesday, March 16, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax with the Rev. Phil Cardenzana officiating. Burial will be at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax.
Visitation will be held after noon Thursday at the funeral home where family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to the Jasper County Road to Recovery will be accepted.
The son of Matthew Michael and Harriett Overton Murphy, he was born July 14, 1934, in Des Moines. He graduated from Dowling High School in West Des Moines in 1952. He married Marlys “Marci” Long in 1971, in Des Moines.
A resident of Colfax for 20 years, Mr. Murphy owned the Colfax Locker until 1992 and recently was employed by the meat department at Albertson’s in Des Moines. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Todd Murphy and Mark Bequeaith, both of Des Moines; a daughter, Anne Woodward of Indianola; five grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Zubrod of Templeton; and his mother.
He was preceded in death by his father.
