Ankeny – John Douglas Maher, 39, of the 700 block of Northeast 10th Street, Ankeny, died Thursday at home of multiple gunshot wounds suffered during an altercation. Private family services will be held at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic church in Ankeny, of which he was a member. Burial will be at McKeever cemetery in Colfax.
Mr. Maher was born in Des Moines and had lived in Ankeny 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; a son, Christian, and a daughter, Alicia Maher, all of Ankeny; his parents Donald and Althea Maher of Bella Vista, Ark.; a sister, Sandra Thompson of Pleasant Hill; and two brothers, Joseph of Mingo and James of Smithton, Ill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society-Iowa Affiliate. Ankeny Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
