Died – At his residence in Colfax, Iowa, January 26, 1885, William Foy, aged 69 years, 8 months and 27 days.
Mr. Foy was born in Belmont county, Ohio, and at the age of fourteen years came with his parents to Iowa, where he lived until 1851; in that year he went to California – returning 5 years later to Iowa and settling in Jasper county. He was a union soldier in the war of the rebellion, and there contracted the disease which eventually ended his life. On account of this disease he was honorably discharged from the army, and soon after his return to Iowa married Mrs. Eliza Coe, who, with two children (Ella and Samuel) survive him. Mr. Foy early in life became a member of the United Brethren religious society, but during his residence in Colfax was a worthy member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was also a member of the Masonic brotherhood and the Grand Army of the Republic; and these societies attended and took part in his obsequies which occurred Thursday from the M. E. Church, and the interment was at the McKeever burying ground. William Foy was an honest man, a good husband, an affectionate and indulgent father and a citizen without an enemy. He was one of the best men it has ever been the writer’s good fortune to know. As death approached he calmly and patiently awaited his coming, and its advent was unmarked by pain – so easily did he pass away that even friends who stood around could not mark the change.
