Kloppenborg, John Henry II – 1948-1996

John Henry Kloppenborg II, 47, of Collins died Sunday at Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines of complications of a bone marrow transplant. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Collins United Methodist church, and burial will be in Ashton Cemetery.
Mr. Kloppenborg was born in State Center and lived in Collins most of his life. He retired in 1991 as a staff sergeant in the Army, where he served eight years. He formerly served in the Navy. He was a member of Day Light Lodge in Des Moines, the Methodist Church and Freland-Carver American Legion post. He also was past chief of the Collins Fire department.
Surviving are his wife, Nita; two sons, John III and Jimmy, both at home; his mother, Olive Kloppenborg, and a brother, Larry, both of Marshalltown; and six sisters, Elaine Stewart-Stuckey of Collins, Nancy Diggins of Marshalltown, Opal Howell of Collins, Casey Schuler of Marshalltown and Peggy Lester and Myrtle Lester, both of Colfax.
The family will visit with friends from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the church, where a Masonic service will begin at 8 p.m. Fredregill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
