Former Resident is Called
William S. Johnson, a former jeweler of Colfax passed away at his home (text missing).
William S. Johnson, son of R. R. and Eliza Johnson, was born in Clear Creek township, Jasper county, Iowa, on December 25, 1867; and died November 22, 1923, aged 55 years, 10 months and 27 days.
Mr. Johnson was raised on the farm. He taught school several years; and then, became a jeweler, following this vocation until very recent years. He has lived in Jasper County and adjacent towns all his life until with his family he removed to Jewett, Wisconsin, last spring.
On Sept. 4, 1894, he was united in marriage to Ida S. Soliday to which union two children were born, Harlan R. and Vilda F., both of Jewett, Wisconsin. All were with him during his last illness.
Mr. Johnson has been a sufferer from paralysis for four or five years of which disease he finally died.
As a friend and neighbor, he has had few equals. His genial disposition and willingness at all times to help a friend at whatever cost to himself made him a host of friends in each locality where he has lived. Besides these friends and the immediate family, he leaves to mourn his loss, one sister, Mrs. Ruby Hand of Mingo, Iowa, several cousins, and many other distant relatives.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. G. Williams at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Ashton Chapel Church. Interment was made in the Ashton cemetery.
