Maxwell, Henry – 1839-1921

Henry Maxwell was born in Knox county, Ill., Sept 15, 1839. Died at state hospital, Mt. Pleasant, Nov. 21, 1921, aged eighty years and three months.
He enlisted in the Union Army and served three years, being at Ft. Dollesson and other important engagements.
Jan. 4, 1866 he was united in marriage to Irene Snow. To this union nine children were born, six of whom survive with the widow and mother: Oscar Maxwell, Elk City, Idaho; Mrs. Ida Galloway, of Leroy, Minn.; Mrs. Wm. Owens of Elkhart; Bert of Mingo; Charles and Ira of this vicinity.
He leaves thirty-one grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Harriet Furman, of Moline, Ill., three brothers, Richard, of Hampton; James of Felix, Cal.; and Benjamin of Missouri. Three daughters, Mrs. Alice Lightner, Mrs. Frank Cleverly and Mrs. Roy Snook preceded him.
Mr. Maxwell was a member of the Congregational church at Ashton chapel. He was active and industrious. Jan. 29, 1916, he fell on the ice and sustained a fractured hip and has been a constant sufferer since that time, going with crutches. He travelled much, spending much time in Idaho, California.
Funeral services were conducted at Ashton chapel Wednesday at 1 p.m. by Rev. Keister of Mingo. A quartette sand favorite hymns. Interment was in Ashton cemetery. Six grandsons were pall bearers, John Owens, Charles and Orville Cleverly, Frank, Henry and Howard Maxwell.
