Ms. Frances Louise Ashton Miller, 84, 2500 block of Guthrie Avenue, Des Moines, died December 5 at Valley View village of pneumonia. No services are planned. The body was immediately cremated.
Ms. Miller was born in Shannon City, IA. She lived her early childhood mostly in Des Moines and as an adult she lived in Albany, NY before moving back to Des Moines in 1995. She was a retired librarian from the Research Library of New York State Dept. of Motor Vehicles. She was in the US Navy Waves during WWII. She was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Union Presbyterian Church in Albany, the Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club, North High Alumni Association, Drake Alumni Association, Defenders of Wildlife, Festival of Praise Choir (1971-1990, New York), founding member of Alexis de Tocqueville Society (United Way of NY), Gold Founder’s Club, South Suburban YMCA and M.A.D.D. She enjoyed reading, singing with church choirs, and loved to travel.
She is survived by brother Streeter Ashton of Leawood, KS; nieces Laurinda Wallendal of Des Moines and Mary Thompson of Leawood, KS; six great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-nephew.
Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park Presbyterian Church or Valley View Village. Hamilton’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
