Sudden Death
Mrs. Wassenaar, living 3 ˝ miles west of town, died at 2 o’clock Monday morning. Her death resulted from a paralytic stroke. The day before she had been in her usual health. He was an estimable woman, respected by all who knew her. Her funeral occurred from her late residence Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Gibson, of Monroe preached the sermon. The remains were laid to rest in the Griffis cemetery.
Miss Elsie Turkstra was born Dec. 1, 1834, and died Sept. 2, 1895, thus being 40 yrs., 9 mo., and 1 day old.
On May 18, 1859, she was married to Gerben H. Wassenaar. To this happy union were born 7 children, all of whom, excepting one, survive the parents.
Mother Wassenaar united with the First Reform Church in 1856, since which time she has lived a devoted Christian life. Those whom she has left “sorrow not as those without hope”.
