Scalded to Death
The one-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Hotchkin, living on the old Keesler farm, eight or nine miles west of Newton, met with a horrible death last Saturday. Its mother had been churning, and had put a lot of hot water in the churn to scald it. She turned round to attend to something else, when the little one got hold of the plug and pulled it out, and of course a quantity of the scalding water came with it and went right on the child’s body. As the child had flannel clothing on, of course the heat remained in it, and fairly cooked the flesh. The terrible sufferings of the little one ended in death. The deepest sympathy of many neighbors and friends is felt for the grief-stricken parents.
