Melda Marlene Ingle, age 91 of Vandalia, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Vandalia. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Vandalia Church of Christ. Burial will take place at Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Church of Christ and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
The daughter of Glenn H. and Golden Dawn (Quigley) Daugherty, Melda was born on February 8, 1932 in Prairie City. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1950 as the class Salutatorian. On August 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to Marvin William Ingle. They made their home in Prairie City and Indianapolis. Prior to having children, Melda worked in the physical therapy department at Methodist Hospital, working with polio patients. She loved high school basketball, both boys and girls, whether it was in person or listening on the radio. Melda was a faithful member of the Vandalia Church of Christ. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother and supporter of her family and also anyone who was in need. Melda also enjoyed reading, traveling and working on puzzles as well as being famous for her homemade noodles and cinnamon rolls.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Greg (Maggie) Ingle, Lynnette Dowdy, Lisa (Doug) Fiorentin, and Charles (Angela) Ingle; her grandchildren, Melody (Tim) Burkman, Derek (Amy) Ingle, Justin (Brittney) Dowdy, Jason (Autumn) Dowdy, Dawn (Matt) Mikus, Devon (Erin) Ingle, Staci (Jason) Miller, James (Laura) Dowdy, Bruce (Kelsey) Fiorentin, Trent (Leah) Fiorentin, Charity (Destry) Klein, Nathan Fiorentin, and Lucas (Shelby) Ingle; 29 great-grandchildren; her uncle, Walter Daugherty; and sister-in-law, Orleath Ingle. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 2021, a granddaughter, Sheila Ingle; sisters, Dorothy Van Maanen and Helen Wilson; and a brother, Clifford Duckstein.
