Zella Hutchinson Bergeson

Whittemore – Zella O. Bergeson, 88, Whittemore, died Feb. 15, 1996 at Palo Alto County Hospital, Emmetsburg.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of the Wilson Funeral Home, Algona, with the Rev. Sue Thomas, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Fenton, officiating. Her ashes will be buried at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley. Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Champney, Whittemore, and Shirley Torpin, Placentia, Calif.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Frank, Ellsworth, Ernest, Lloyd and Elmer Hutchinson; and sisters, Lillie Benskin, Lenora Lohr, Mary Hutchinson, Myrtle Faircloth, and Alice Chalstrom.

Zella Olive Hutchinson was born Nov. 2 1907, in Kellogg. The family moved to the Apple Tree Farm near Wesley when she was five years old. She was educated in Wesley and graduated from Wesley High School in 1927. She married Clarence Bergeson in 1928 in Estherville. Her husband worked as a railroad depot agent and the couple lived in many communities in Iowa. The couple made a home in Whittemore since 1949. She worked for Jerry and Marty’s Grocery Store in Whittemore, retiring in 1970.

Memorials may be given to the Whittemore Fire and Rescue Unit or the Whittemore Little League.
