Lillian L. Nelson, 98, of 1430 1st Ave E., former operator of Nelson Manor, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 3, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral after 9 a.m. Friday.

Memorial contributions to the Nelson Manor Residence Activity Fund will be accepted.

Funeral services for Lillian L. Klopping Nelson, 98, of 1430 1st Ave. E., a lifelong resident of Jasper County and founder of the Nelson Manor Nursing Home, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at the First Lutheran Church.

The Rev. H. Eugene Cederhoum, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral home after 9 a.m.. Friday.

Memorial contributions to the Nelson Manor Activity Fund will be accepted.

She died of cerebral vascular accident Tuesday evening at the Skiff Medical Center.

Survivors are four grandchildren; Bradley Mc Main and David Mc Main, both of Houston, Tex., Mary Ann Shaw of Newton and Candace Louise Baltz of Kellogg; eight great - grandchildren; six great - great - grandchildren, and a sister, Estella Signs of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Frederick, Harlan and Willis, a daughter, Margaret Johnson, and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Nelson was a longtime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, an active member of the Good Cheer Class and had been active in the Newton Business and Professional Women’s Club for many years.

Mrs. Nelson, who started the Nelson Manor Nursing Home in the early 1940's a business still in her family, was a pioneer in the business, opening the first nursing home in Newton. She had cared for many residents throughout the years.

The daughter of Adolph and Margaret Louise Schnathorst Klopping she was born May 2, 1890, in Malaka Township in Jasper County.

Mrs. Nelson moved to Newton in 1911.
