Adkins – On Wednesday evening, Dec. 4th, 1878, at her home in Prairie City, of heart disease. Mrs. Lydia Anne, wife of Mr. Ezra Adkins, aged 52 years.

The deceased was born in Champlain County, Ohio, July 4, 1826. Her father’s family removed to Illinois in 1843, when at the age of 20 years, she was left an orphan, the eldest of a family of eight children to whom she took the place of a mother and of whom she was the first to die. She was married in Illinois, November 18, 1848, and came to this city in March 1866, since which time the family here lived in our midst, and the deceased has, by her lady-like qualities, Christian character won the love and esteem of all who knew her.

She leaves to mourn her loss a husband with whom she has lived 30 years and four children. Four children have preceded her to the Promised Land.

Her sudden death, her illness being only of a few hours length, casts a gloom over the community and she will be placed today in her last resting place, lamented by all. Rev. Mr. White will conduct the funeral exercises at the Congregational Church today at 10 o’clock a.m.
