Lena Koppin, 90 Dies at Hospital; Services Tuesday

Mrs. Charles (Lena) Koppin, 90, of Rt. 1, Newton, died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home.

The Rev. Walter Trost, minister of the Zoar Evangelical and Reformed Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Koppin is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Bertha Brooks of Kellogg, Miss Rose Koppin at home, Mrs. Lloyd (Elsie) Hutchinson of Kellogg, Mrs. Charles (Esther) Wiedeman of Newton, Mrs. Thomas (Gladys) Birchard of Hillsboro, Ore. and Mrs. Claire (Goldie) Schnell of Lynnville; two sons, Walter Koppin and Glen Koppin, both of Newton; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Clara) Allen.

Mrs. Koppin attended the Zoar Evangelical and Reformed Church.

Born Oct. 4, 1870 in Germany, she came to the United States at the age of 17. She was married to Charles Koppin Dec. 7, 1898 Newton.

Mrs. Koppin had resided in Jasper County for the past 73 years.

Note: Carolina Louise Charlotte Brune (Lena) was born 4 Oct 1870 near Kirchhiede, Talle, Lippe Detmold, Germany. She died 9 Sep 1961, in Newton, Jasper County, Iowa. She was first married to Coonradt Kracht, who died in 16 Jan 1898.
