Couch, Mary Mallow – 1830-1913

COUCH, DUKEMAN, MALLOW, TOPPER, WHEELER

Mary Mallow was born in Seneca Ohio, April 3, 1830, and died May 10, 1913, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. A. Wheeler, at Goddard, Iowa. On July 3, 1852, she was married to Rufus B. Couch, at McCutcheonville, Ohio and Mr. Couch died in 1900 at their farm near Mingo. Of the 9 children born to this union, 7 were sons, and 8 survive, as follows: Danvers A., and William A. Couch, Mrs. Clara E. Topper and Mrs. Amanda A. Wheeler, all of Jasper county; Chas W., of Stanley county, South Dakota; Andrew Couch, of Pennington county, South Dakota and Warren F. Couch, of Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Following their marriage and until 1867 Mother and Father Couch resided in Ohio, then coming to Newton, Iowa, they resided on a farm, up to the time of Mr. Couch’s death, when Mother Couch went and made her home with her son 2 ˝ miles north of Mingo for seven years, thereafter making her home with her daughter, Mrs. O. A. Wheeler, for 5 ˝ years past.
Funeral services were held May 14 at Union Chapel near Ira at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Edward Pruitt, M. E. pastor here Excepting one son, Charles, all surviving members of the family were present at the obsequies. The body was laid to rest in Union Chapel Cemetery beside that of her husband.
