Harry Gregg Dies At Colfax; Rites Will Be Saturday
Colfax – Harry Gregg, 83, a resident of Colfax for more than 60 years, died Wednesday evening at the Grand Hotel in Colfax.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walters Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. E. Harold Jackson will conduct the services. Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery.
Mr. Gregg is survived by a step-son, Elmer Watkins, of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. James Berry of Madrid; a brother, Charles of California; three sisters, Mrs. Doun Pettit of Springfield, Mo., Mrs. Verl Hitt of Traer and Miss Maude Gregg of Newton, and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife in February 1948.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Neshach Gregg, he was born July 20, 1879 at Rothham, England.
Mr. Gregg came to the United States at the age of six, settling in the Oswalt community.
He was married to Marie Miles in 1910 in Colfax.
Mr. Gregg was a coal miner for 40 years later working in a factory and as custodian at the Jasper County courthouse in Newton.
