Funeral Services Mrs. Leah Gould Held Here Tues.
Passed Away At Newton Saturday After Two Year Illness
Funeral services for Mrs. Leah Gould, 79, were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Cutter-Hartnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Albert van der Ploeg, pastor of the Baptist church officiating.
Mrs. Gould had been a resident of this community for fifty years and had always been active until the past two years when her health failed her.
Mrs. Leah Morris Gould was born in Blueford, Breacon Shire, Wales, on August 18, 1859 and passed away at Newton, Iowa, January 28, 1939 at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 9 days.
In 1883 she was united in marriage at Blueford, Wales to William Gould, who has preceded her in death.
Her early life was spent in church activities, especially in singing with large choruses, for which her native Wales is famous. She left that country in 1887 to make her home in Toronto, Canada, but two years later arrived in the vicinity of Colfax where she has lived 50 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
A son Tom and a son James preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her loss 5 children, Mrs. Ernest Goff, William Gould, John Gould, Ernest Gould, all of Des Moines, and LeRoy Gould of Boulder, Colorado, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Pall bearers were: Sam Jones, Wayne Stroup, Sam Sage, Harry Gregg, George Williams and Tom Hughes.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Geo. Rinker, Mrs. Geo Robinson, B. F. Van Dyke and John A. Davis with Mrs. E. S. Calhoon accompanist.
Burial was in the McKeever cemetery.
