Mrs. Geo. W. Goodman Died Sunday
Funeral Services Held Tuesday Afternoon From M. E. Church
Mrs. George W. Goodman passed away at her home north of Colfax Sunday morning following a lingering illness from cancer.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church with Dr. Theodore Morning preaching the sermon the Rev. Russell G. Nye having charge of the service.
Mrs. Goodman, until her recent illness, was very active in the affairs of the community, especially in Poweshiek township where she had lived many years and was so well known, and had so many friends.
Mrs. George W. Goodman was Elizabeth Scott, daughter of Richard and Ruth Scott and was born in Yorkshire, England, September 14th, 1871, and died at her home north of Colfax June 7th, 1936 at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 23 days.
Her parents, dying in England, she came to the United States with her grandmother when 8 years of age. Her home was first in the state of Pennsylvania, near Johnstown. When 14 years of age she came to this community which has been her home these 51 years.
October 9th 1889, she was united in marriage to George W. Goodman, and to this union was born one child, a daughter who lived but 16 months.
Mrs. Goodman always took an active interest in community life, being a member of Poweshiek Township Club, the Farmers Evening club, of Rebekah Lodge No. 208, of Golden Rod Temple No. 4 Pythian Sister, and of Church Aid Societies. In England the family was connected with the Church of England and in this country they have adhered to the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Goodman began to fail in health last December, and grew weaker and weaker, suffering and suffering, until relief came in death last Sunday morning.
She is survived by her husband, George W. Goodman, one half-sister, Mrs. Elma Clarke of Des Moines, one half-brother, Lawrence Scott of Oakland, Calif., a large number of nieces and nephews one of whom, Mrs. Julia Hughes, was her constant and faithful companion in her last illness. Mrs. Goodman was also surrounded by a large number of faithful and friendly neighbors.
