Carl Albert Danley, 78, of Rt. 2, Newton, a longtime resident of the Newton community, died Saturday, May 4, at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the First Assembly of God.
The Rev. Robert L. Stewart, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax.
Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, May 6, at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Esther; four sons, William A., R. Dean, Dennis C. and Randy, all of Rt. 2, Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Hackley of Des Moines and Kathie Danley of Newton; a step-son, Terry Pielstick of Fort Worth, Tex.; and three step-daughters, Shirley Danley of Rt. 2, Newton, Janice Chisholm of Newton and Carla Lumberg of Grand Island, Neb.
Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three brothers, Clayton “Dutch” Danley and Merle Danley, both of Des Moines, and Robert Danley of Oklahoma, and two sisters, Mrs. Elmo (Isle) Ghent of Rt. 3, Newton and Mrs. Gerald (Marie) Cushatt of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George, Vernon and William Jr., a grandson and a step-son, Jackie Elvin Simpson.
Mr. Danley, a member of the United Auto Workers Retirees Union, had owned and operated a garage in Des Moines for several years, taught auto mechanics at East High School in Des Moines and had been a national Youth Administration instructor in Des Moines before working at the parsons Co. in Newton, retiring in 1969.
The son of William J. and Frieda Weibe Danley, he was born July 5, 1906 in Hugo, Colo.
He was married to Esther Wonders Oct. 9, 1947 in Toledo.
Mr. Danley also had resided in Des Moines for 10 years.
