Verna Cummings Rites Are Held; Dies on Friday
Colfax – Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Pearl Cummings, 91, a resident of Colfax since the age of two, were held this afternoon at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. Jim Pemble, pastor of the Colfax First United Methodist Church, conducted services. Burial was in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
She died Friday at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Survivors are a son, Howard R. of Ames; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Wetle of Bend, Ore.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1956 and a son, Ralph, in 1976.
Mrs. Cummings was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.
The daughter of Richard and Mae Price Russell, she was born Sept. 3, 1888 in Elkhorn Station, Neb., and was graduated from Colfax Community High School.
She was married to Ralph Cummings, June 16, 1908 in Des Moines.
