J. Harvey Boyd Died At Grand Hotel Sun.
Funeral Services Held Tuesday At Methodist Church
J. Harvey Boyd, 77, died Sunday night, December 8th, at the Grand Hotel, where he had been a patient since early fall. His health had failed noticeably the past year and for several weeks he had been confined to his bed.
When he retired from active farming he took up his residence in Colfax where he had since lived, with the exception of a short time spent in California.
J. Harvey Boyd was born in Ohio February 25, 1858, where he lived until the age of six years. He was one of a family of twelve, ten sons and two daughters.
After coming to Iowa, he grew to manhood on a farm north of Colfax.
His first wife preceded him in death several years ago.
Though Mr. Boyd spent a few years in California he has spent most of his time in Colfax and always has been an honest and upright citizen, but has been in failing health for the last year.
He leaves his wife and six brothers Mahlon of Audubon, John of Woodard, Charley of Colfax, George of Des Moines and Jess and Edward of Newton, besides four nieces and six nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church, with Rev. Russell Nye officiating.
A mixed quartette composed of John Davis, Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. E. B. Shissler and Chester Binkerd, accompanied by Mrs. Cleo Wall, sang two hymns and Mr. Davis sang an appropriate solo.
Pall bearers were D. D. Adams, F. J. Garwood, F. M. Gagle, E. S. Meckley, J. H. Hahn and I. H. Nicodemus.
Interment was had at the McKeever cemetery.
