Florence Alexander Dies on Tuesday; Services Saturday
Colfax – Mrs. Joseph R. (Florence) Alexander, 86, of Colfax, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Tuesday at the Nelson Manor in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Colfax Methodist Church.
The Rev. Lawrence Garrett, minister of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery near Colfax.
Walters Funeral Home at Prairie City is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are two sons, Howard J. of Colfax and Harold R. of Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Esther Lind of Colfax; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Grace Walker of Cheverly, Md.
The daughter of Paul and Isabel Patrie, she was born Nov. 11, 1880 at Prairie City.
She attended normal school in Jasper County and taught in Jasper County rural schools for many years.
She was married to Joseph Ryan Alexander who preceded her in death in March 1946.
Mrs. Alexander was a member of the Prairie City Christian Church.
A lifelong resident of Colfax and Prairie City, she had resided in Colfax since 1949.
