LOVILIA - Gladys Ann Bishop, 89, died Saturday, March 23, at Pella Regional Health Center Long Term Care Unit.

Her funeral service was held today, March 26, at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville, the Rev. Sonja Van Dusseldorp officiating. Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Lovilia. Memorials: Pella Regional Health Center Long Term Care Unit or Hospice of Pella.

Gladys Ann Bishop was born March 22, 1913, in Lovilia to Claibe Weldon and Lestle Winegardner Weldon. She was raised in Lovilia and attended school there.

On June 18, 1931, she married Forrest Logan Bishop in Knoxville. Gladys took in ironing and raised their children. She was a wonderful seamstress and made clothing for herself and her granddaughters. She had also sewn prom dresses and two wedding gowns. Later in life she enjoyed plastic canvas needlework and writing poems.

In their retirement Gladys and Forrest wintered in Texas for 17 years. They made many friends during their travels, and were known as "the best turkey cookers in Texas" by their friends in Kerrville. Gladys also was known for her banana cream and coconut cream pies. In 1994 they moved to Pella for health reasons. She was a member of the Knoxville Christian Church Disciples of Christ and Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Marjorie and Bill Franklin of Knoxville; a brother and sister-in-law: Danny and Virginia Weldon of Lovilia; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; five step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Forrest in 1997; four brothers: William "Ed," Jack "Archie," Clarence "Buster" and James "Homer;" a sister, Wilma Gutcher; two sons: Chester Lee "Buddy" and Donald Forrest; and her great-grandson, Joshua Logan Rodgers.
