NEWTON - Charles Belzer, 84, of Newton, died Friday, June 28, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

His memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. The body has been cremated. Private family burial will be at a later date at Bluff Creek Cemetery in Mahaska County. The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or Heart Center of Iowa may be left at the funeral home.

Charles Belzer was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Given to Charles C. and Mabel Kennedy Belzer. He attended rural school in Mahaska County.

He married Frances M. Rowland on July 16, 1948, in Oskaloosa. He was a front end alignment specialist and had worked at Axtell Ford-Lincoln-Mercury, and also worked at Ford Garage in Oskaloosa. He lived in Oskaloosa until 1953, then in Brookhaven, Miss., until 1964, when he moved to Newton.

He is survived by his wife, Frances, of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Bryan Moomaw of Newton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis, in 1995; and a brother and a sister.
