NEW SHARON - Phillip B. Patterson, 97, of New Sharon, died Sunday, Oct. 14, at New Sharon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Sharon Friends Church, Pastor Daryl Martin and Pastor David Pinkerton officiating. Burial: Friends Cemetery, New Sharon. Visiting hours begin 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon, where the family will greet friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials: New Sharon Friends Church.

Phillip Brooks Patterson was born Aug. 16, 1904, in Sully to William Edgar and Persie Ellis Patterson. He was raised in the New Sharon area and graduated New Sharon High School in 1921. He was a teller at the New Sharon Bank for a short time before he began farming with his brother, Leslie, north of New Sharon.

He remained involved in farming until 1994, when he moved to New Sharon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a lifetime member of New Sharon Friends Church. He loved horses and rode in many horse shows. He traveled extensively with his brother Leslie in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. During one such trip, he served as an extra in an Indian movie filmed near Jackson Hole, Wyo.

He is survived by his nephew and wife, Bill and Patty Patterson of Montezuma; great-nephews Jeff and Justin Patterson of Arizona and Joe Patterson of Cedar Rapids; great-nieces Pam Bruber of Arizona and Jaclynn Willemsen of Cedar Rapids; and his sister-in-law, Letha Merrill of New Sharon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Leslie, Charlie, Ellis, Lyle and an infant; and a nephew, Bruce Patterson
