Henry D. Jansen, 87, of Sully, died Sunday, Feb. 4, at Pella Regional Health Center.

His funeral service was held 1:30 p.m. today, Feb. 8, at Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully, the Rev. Lawrence J. Howerzyl officiating. Burial: Sully Cemetery. Memorials: Sully Christian Grade School, "Back to God Hour" or Hospice of Pella. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella was in charge of arrangements.

Henry Brant Jansen was born Aug. 19, 1913, near Kellogg in Jasper County, to Dirk (Dick) and Gysbertha Bruxvoort Jansen. He was educated at Richland No. 3 country grade school near Kellogg, and graduated the eighth grade. He lived on the farm and helped labor there until his marriage.

On April 6, 1934, he married Cornelia (Nelly) Van Norden in the parsonage of Sully Christian Reformed Church. They farmed with Henry's brother, Will, for two years. They then moved west of Killduff. In 1943, they moved south of Sully, where they farmed until retiring and moving into Sully on New Year's Day in 1992. While farming, Henry worked with his son Robert for 40 years. Nelly died Nov. 17, 1995.

He spent many hours at the Coffee Cup Cafe in Sully with friends. He was a lifelong member of Sully Christian Reformed Church, and had served as an elder and deacon many times.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Alenna Nieuwsma Jansen of Sully; five grandchildren and spouses; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Dora Van Wyk of Pella, and Alberta Struik of Sully; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Jansen of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelly; his parents; and six brothers and sisters: Evert, Elizabeth DeKoning, Jennie Simon Fopma, Hattie Rut Fopma, Gertie Sjaardema and William D. Jansen.
