SULLY - Margaret A. De Jong, 87, of Sully, died Monday, Oct. 1, at Pella Regional Health Center.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at First Reformed Church in Sully, Pastor Roger Punt and Pastor Brice Hoyt officiating. Burial: Sully Cemetery, Sully. Memorials: First Reformed Church in Sully, Hospice of Pella or World Bible League. Visiting hours begin 11 a.m. Thursday at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella, with family present 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday.

Margaret Angie De Jong was born March 7, 1914, on a farm near Otley to Henry and Dena Van Gorp Van Roekel. She spent her entire life in the Sully area. She graduated Sully Community High School and Drake University. She taught elementary students for more than 30 years in Jasper County rural schools and in the Lynnville-Sully Community Schools. She was a member of the Women's Guild and taught Sunday school for many years at First Reformed Church in Sully.

On May 20, 1927, she married F. Donald De Jong at her family's home near Sully. He died Feb. 27, 1999.

She is survived by two children and spouses: Marcia and Don Primus of Cedar Rapids, and Bruce De Jong and Susan Davis of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren: Lisa Ann and husband Robert Weber of Chicago, Ill., Amy Lynn Primus of St. Paul, Minn., and Jay Douglas Primus of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Gertrude Van Roekel of Denver, Colo., and Pearl and Henry M. Van Wyk of Sully; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers: Arthur and Harry Van Roekel; a sister, Minnie Dahm; and a sister-in-law, Betty Van Wyk.
