Charlie Samson, 94, of Newton died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton.

Funeral services were held today at Community Reformed Church in Newton with the Rev. Eric Johnson and Dr. Marvin Potter officiating. Burial was at Palo Alto Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton handled arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Arie and Anna (Zylstra) Samson, he was born May 11, 1911, in Harvey. On April 8, 1935, he married Marsella Bannister in Des Moines. He was a farmer in Prairie City and retired in 1976. After retirement, he and his wife did custodial work at the United Presbyterian Church and several businesses in Newton for many years. He was a member of the Community Reformed Church in Newton and enjoyed mechanic work.

Mr. Samson is survived by his wife; two sons, Charles (Marilyn) Samson of Prairie City and Ralph (Kim) Samson of Lacona; a son-in-law, Dean Jenkins of Newton; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Minnie Bruxvoort of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son in infancy; a daughter, Anna May Jenkins; and three brothers, Andrew, Paul and Gerrit.
