William J. "Bill" Boyce III, 63, of Newton died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Linda Butler and Cheri Doane officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a lunch at the church. Memorials will be accepted to the Central Iowa Cyclists, Newton YMCA or Project AWAKE and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The son of William J. and Bernice (Miller) Boyce II, he was born Nov. 28, 1941, in Davenport. He graduated from Urbandale High School in 1960.

On July 11, 2000, he married Leslie (Trout) Githens in Catalina Island, Calif.

He worked for the Plumbers and Steamfitter Union Local 33 for 40 years and worked most recently for A.J. Allen. He enjoyed bicycling and rode in RAGBRAI 10 times. He also enjoyed fishing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and skiing. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 33, ACME Bike Club, Central Iowa Cyclists, Izaak Walton League, Newton Elks and Iowa Ski Club.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott Boyce of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a daughter, Carol Boyce of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren; his mother, Bernice Boyce of West Des Moines; a brother, Robert (Ann) Boyce of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Susan (Tracy) Witt of Adel; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.
