Vincent Edward “Denny” Keenan, 66, of 1711 N. 4th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1955, died of cancer Monday evening, Jan. 9, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Dr. Douglas Oelke, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Military services will be conducted by the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Joanne; a son, Jerry Wayne Keenan of Newton; three daughters, Sonja Atwood, Melinda Quick, and Pam Keenan, all of Newton; seven grandchildren; a brother Mike Keenan of Grinnell; and a sister Lois Olson of Harrison, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bernard, and an infant son Bernard.

Mr. Keenan was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 997, Izaak Walton League, Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited.

Mr. Keenan, who had served in the Army during World War II, had been employed at the Maytag Co., retiring in 1981.

The son of Thomas Patrick and Harriet Watson Keenan, he was born Dec. 22, 1922 in Grinnell and was graduated from Grinnell Community High School.

He was married to Joanne York May 3, 1947 in Marshalltown.
