Services Held
Services for Wayne E. Shannon Sr., 70, of Monroe, were held Saturday, October 10, 1998, at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Rev. Larry Gander, pastor and Rev. Greg Baum officiated the services. Interment was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Wayne passed away October 7, 1998, at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella of cancer.
The son of Henry and Alta Deaton Shannon, Wayne was born October 17, 1927, in Monroe. He was a lifelong Monroe resident. He was married to Anna Mae Knittle in Des Moines.
Wayne was retired from the Maytag Company – Distribution Department. He belonged to the U.A.W.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Pella or the Monroe Public Library.
Survivors are his wife, Anna Mae Shannon; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Wayne Shannon Jr. and wife Kathy of Monroe and John Shannon and wife, Denise of Monroe; 5 grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Colyn of Monroe, Jean Shannon of Newton, Marlene Ver Steeg of Knoxville; two brothers, Marlan Shannon of Newton and Max Shannon of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Patrick; a brother, Harlan; an infant sister; and 2 infant grandsons.
