George Lawrence Bowers, 74, of 4140 E. 32nd St. died of a kidney ailment Thursday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, with burial at Vandalia Cemetery.
Mr. Bowers, a native of Prairie City, lived most of his life in Des Moines. He was a retired car man for the Rock Island Lines and Chicago and North Western Railway. He was a member of the United Transportation Workers Union.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; two sons, Alvie of Bondurant and Donald of Des Moines; a daughter, Patricia M. Stokes of Des Moines; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Merle Hay Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Staves United Methodist Church.
