Florence M. Elrod, 85, of Cherokee Village, Ark., formerly of Gilman, died Saturday, Nov. 9, in Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren near Prairie City. Burial will be in Griffis Cemetery near Prairie City with Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Cherokee Village.
She was born July 3, 1917, in Colfax to Charles and Verna Webb Romick. She was married to Lester L. Elrod on March 28, 1936, in Prairie City. The couple lived in Gilman for many years where she operated a beauty salon for 21 years. In 1980 they moved to Cherokee Village and opened Elrod’s Furniture Store.
She was a member of the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church and the women’s circle of the church. She also was a member of the United Methodist Missions, 4-H and past secretary of the Gilman Saddle Club.
She is survived by her husband Lester L. Elrod of Cherokee village; four daughters, Shirley Van Wyhe of Pella, Wilma Wilson of Grinnell, Sue Vanderpool of Mammoth Springs, Ark., and Carla McCrea of Runnells; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Zola Cole of Williamsburg, Va., and two brothers Raymond Romick of Alleman and Tom Romick of Webster City. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, four brothers and one sister.

Florence Elrod, 85, of Cherokee Village, Ark., died of congestive heart failure Friday at Eastern Ozark Regional Hospital there. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Church of the Brethren near Prairie City.
Mrs. Elrod was born in Colfax and had lived in Prairie City and Gilman before moving to Cherokee Village in 1980. She was a retired beautician and had owned and operated a beauty salon in Gilman. Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell is handling arrangements.
