Zola Janet (Merical) Williams
April 26, 1937 ~ September 19, 2022 (age 85)

Zola Janet Williams, 85, of Newton, formerly of Adel, died on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Park Centre in Newton. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Panther Creek Church of the Brethern in Adel. The family will greet friends after the service. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport in Desoto may be left at the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Zola, the daughter of Floyd W. and Frances E. (Schaffer) Merical, was born on April 26, 1937. She grew up in Earlham and graduated from Earlham High School in 1956. On December 13, 1956, Zola was united in marriage with Carl Williams. In 1963, Carl and Zola built the home that would be in their family for the next 56 years in Adel. While Zola was raising their family she was a homemaker and did in home daycare. After the kids were in school, she worked at the Ben Franklin in Adel for 33 years. Zola was a member of the Adel Christian Church. She enjoyed bowling, coaching softball, gardening, flowers, and singing. In 2016, Zola moved to Newton to live with her daughter, Jacqueline.

Those left to honor Zola’s memory are her children, John (Valarie) Williams of San Jose, California, Carol Williams (Gary Flinn) of Adel, Jacqueline (David) Claseman of Newton, and Julianna (Troy) Gehrke of Adel; grandchildren, Buc Broyles, Sara Broyles (Chris Nichols), Carly Broyles (Jason Kajewski), Wyatt Broyles (Emily Owen), Morgan Gehrke, Josie Hollands, and Melody Williams; her great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Gatlon, Tess, Tucker, Hank, Grady, Zola, Colt, Loudan, and Layla; siblings, Carl (Joan) Merical of Lake Ponderosa, JayLee Merical of Greenfield, and Gary (Linda) Merical of Brooklyn; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl Williams in 2008; daughter, Carla Broyles Hollands; a granddaughter, Brooklyne; and brother, Floyd “Junior” Merical.
