Young Woman Dies Of Influenza On Her Wedding Day
Colfax, Ia., Nov. 8 – Miss Florence Whitney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Whitney, died at her home on the farm four miles to the south of Maxwell on October 31, aged 23 years, three months and three days. Death was due to an attack of influenza which developed into pneumonia, she being sick about one week. A sad feature of the death is that she had planned to be married on the day she was called.
The funeral services were held in the yard at the farm home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. conducted by the pastor of the Methodist church of Maxwell of which deceased had been a member since nine years of age. Interment was made in McKeever cemetery. She leaves her parents and two sisters Misses Esther and Laura Whitney the youngest of the two daughters having been seriously ill of the influenza but is now on the road to recovery, having gotten of the fever, and is now doing fine with all hope of complete recovery.
The family have planned to move to Colfax the latter part of next week, and the incoming of the new home will be sad indeed to that which had been planned and anticipated by all member of the family.
Florence Whitney was born in Hubbard, Iowa, June 28, 1895. When she was three years of age her parents moved to Mingo and later to the farm which they are now living to come to Colfax.
