W. June (Vander Hoek) Ver Woert
July 18, 1935 ~ July 19, 2022 (age 87)

Wilma June Ver Woert, 87, of Newton died on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Newton Church of the Way. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials to the Newton Church of the Way or to Tori’s Angels may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

June, the daughter of Martin and Marie (Maasdam) Vanden Hoek, was born on July 18, 1935 in Jasper County, Iowa. She graduated from Kellogg High School and attended business school in Des Moines for a short time. On December 28, 1956, June was united in marriage with Roxie Ver Woert in Sully. They made their home in rural Jasper County. June stayed at home raising her four boys. She also worked as a para-legal at the Campbell, Campbell, and Caldwell Law Firm during tax season and for over 20 years, June and Roxie owned and operated Roxie’s Camping, a campground off of Exit 173 on Interstate 80. June was a charter member of the Community Reformed Church in Newton, now known as the Newton Church of the Way. She also loved making afghans for her entire family and was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and strawberry jam.

June is survived by her four sons, David (Jill) Ver Woert of Cedar Rapids, Daniel (Annette) Ver Woert of Rich Hill, Missouri, Mark (Kami) Ver Woert of Castle Pines, Colorado, and James (Eileen) Ver Woert of Adel; 13 grandchildren, Shannon and Kyle Ver Woert, Josiah, Danette, Mikaya, and Shaphan Ver Woert, Allison and Natalie Ver Woert, Kyla Helmrath, Casey (John) Wheeler, Jackson (Heather) Ver Woert, and Melody and McKayla Ver Woert; her three great-grandchildren, Jenson, Emerson, and Everleigh Wheeler; one great-grandchild on the way; her siblings, Marlene Beyer of Monroe, Eleanor (Gene) Jansen of Sully, Ramona (Mark) Young of Belmond, and Gerald (Linda) Vander Hoek of Brentwood, Missouri; sister-in-law, Tena Vanden Hoek of Lynnville; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roxie Ver Woert; brothers, Vernon and William Vander Hoek; and sister, Leona Brandhof.
