Funeral Services Will Be Held Friday Afternoon From Ira Christian Church
Francis B. Lowry, 83, a pioneer of Jasper County, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Rosa B. Swan of Long Beach, Calif. Funeral services will be held at the Ira Christian church Friday afternoon, April 3, at 2:00 p.m. The body arrived in Colfax from California Thursday night at 11:45 p.m.
Mr. Lowry spent most of his life in the Ira community and was one of the pioneer residents. The Lowry family settled on the homestead west of Ira many years before the Great Western railroad was built. Mr. Lowry followed the occupation of farming during his active life. About ten years ago he went to the west coast where he has since made his home with a sister, Mrs. Rosa B. Swan.
He was united in marriage in late life, but his wife only lived a short time.
He is survived by three brother and two sisters, P. B. Lowry of Ira, Ellis Lowry of Alliance, O., James Lowry of Idaho, Mrs. Lizzie McIntyre of Mingo and Mrs. Rosa B. Swan of Long Beach, Calif.

Francis B. Lowry, eldest son of James A. and Susannah Bussard Lowry was born in Mankato, Minn. on Aug. 4, 1858. When a child he moved with his parents to Jasper county, Iowa, later removing to the farm near Ira, Iowa, where he resided until 1919, when he, with his sister and niece, moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he lived until his death March 27, at the age of 83 years, seven months and 23 days.
Sept. 15, 1887, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth McKay who passed away March 13, 1888.
When a young man he united with the Christian church of which he was a member until death. For many years he served as superintendent of the Ira Sunday school and always a worker in the church.
He is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Ellis Lowry of Morrill, Neb., Peter B., Mingo, Iowa, James A., of Mesa, Wash., Mrs. Elizabeth McIntire, Mingo, Iowa, and Mrs. Rosa B. Swan, a niece, Mrs. Esther Cuberly and numerous nieces and nephews.
As a young man he learned telegraphy and after the Great Western railroad was built, served as agent at Ira for many years.
Owing to conditions at Union Chapel, funeral services were held at the Christian Church at Ira, conducted by Pastor George Woodward on Friday, April 3.
Music was furnished by Mrs. O. D. Hulse, Mrs. Howard Southern, O. D. Hulse and Eldon Geisler with Mrs. L. L. Pickett accompanist.
Pallbearers were Frank Tramel, Fred Esch, Frank Baker, E. C. Battles, Frank Rippey and S. W. Weston.
The flower committee was composed of Keziah Montgomery, Mary Battle, Alta Jones and Lizzie Matthews. Interment was in Union cemetery beside his father, mother, two sisters and one brother.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Lowry of Cairo, Neb., Lincoln of Alliance, Neb.; two sisters, Mary Swan of Long Beach, and Nettie Johnson of Ira.
Interment was in the Union Chapel cemetery near Ira.
