Viola June Carter
June 11, 1926-July 9, 2022

Viola June Carter, age 96 of Monroe, passed away on Saturday, July 9,2022 at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Monroe Presbyterian Church, Monroe Library, or Animal Lifeline of Iowa, P.O Box 12, Carlisle, Iowa 50047 in Viola’s name. The daughter of Clyde Earl and Rose Ann (Wolver) Thomasson, “Vi” was born on June 11, 1926, near Monroe, Iowa. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1944 and was the last living member of this class prior to her death. She was a member of the National Honor Society in high school, and also played basketball and enjoyed playing after high school as a very good basketball player. Viola worked for P.A.G. Seeds after her high school graduation as a secretary and married her boss. In August of 1946, she was united in marriage to Durward Belmont “D.B.” Carter in Troy, Kansas.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Les (Marcia) Carter, Pella, Iowa; Clyde Kirk (Cindi) Carter, Monroe, Iowa; Lois (Dave) Blankenship, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Zoe Carter Bishop, Castle Rock, Colorado; and Kevin (Jill) Carter, Arlington, Massachusetts. Ten grandchildren: Erin Carter (Shane), David. Carter (Deniz Aksoy) Carrie Blankenship, Troy (Marcia) Blankenship, Ellie (Tyler) Reagan; Dylan (Cassie) Bishop, Tanner Bishop; Alivia Carter, Mitchell Carter, and Grace Carter. There are nine great grandchildren, and many great grandpuppies and grandkitties. She is also survived by nieces, Shelley (Mike) Rickabaugh Zarling, Sherri Rickabaugh, both of Des Moines, Iowa. She has a nephew, Steven Carter (Donna) of Champaign, Illinois. Preceding Viola in death were her parents, husband, "Butch" in 1993, and three sisters, Nellie Strickland, Lula “Tootie” Simbro, and Gladys Rickabaugh Snook.
