Amelia, daughter of Joseph and Amelia Dodd, was born at the family residence in Clear Creek township, Jasper county, Iowa, on the 5th of November, 1854, and died October 6th, 1904.
On her birthday anniversary in 1874 she was united by marriage to James Stock, jr., who was her companion to the end, their married life being brightened with a family of six children, four of whom were daughters, and three of these daughters preceded their mother to the spirit land. Up to two years ago the family residence was in her native Clear Creek township, but since that time they have resided on the southern limits of Colfax.
Six years ago she made a profession of religion and was thereafter faithful to her Christian vows, her piety being apparently but an enlargement of her devotion to her home and family to include “the one thing needful.” About ten months ago she was prostrated with her fatal illness which, while it proved one of suffering, was borne with Christian resignation and patience, and her passing was but a step to the higher life.
Her funeral, last Sunday, was from the Ashton Chapel, near her old home, conducted by Rev. O. M. Pennock, the interment being in the Ashton cemetery. The floral offerings by loving friends were appropriate and abundant, and the esteem in which she was held was fully attested by the large concourse of friends and neighbor who assembled to pay their last tribute to the departed.
