Nick Schuring, Former Jasper Resident, Dies
Nick Schuring, 81, of Hilltop Manor in Pella, a former resident of Jasper County, died Tuesday at the Pella Community Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Third Reformed Church in Pella.
The Rev. Kenneth Dykstra, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are his wife, Mintie; five children, Mrs. Arie G. (Nellie) Klein of Pella, Junior of Otley, Arthur of Pella, Marion of Prairie City and Mrs. Henry (Wilma) Schimmel of Pella; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Neal of Pella and Cornie of Sully; and three sisters, Mrs. John (Effie) Van Dam of Newton, Mrs. John (Anna) Vink of Pella and Mrs. Albert (Dena) Budding of Harvey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Nellie, in infancy, a son, Nicholas, a sister and four brothers.
The son of Nicholaas and Jan Vander Post Schuring, he was born Mar. 4, 1895 near Otley.
He attended rural schools in the Otley area.
After his marriage to Mintie Van Zee Feb. 5, 1919, he and his wife farmed in Marion and Jasper Counties until 1959 when they moved to Pella.
For the past two years they have resided at the Hilltop Manor in Pella.
While in Pella Mr. Schuring drove a truck for several years.
