Nellie Kennedy Dies Monday; Rites Saturday
Nellie Belle Kennedy, 87, of 500 First Ave. E. a longtime resident of Newton, died Monday noon at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.
The Rev. Gregory Caldwell, associate pastor of the United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Chapel after 7 p.m. Thursday.
Surviving is a nephew, Max N. Kennedy of Princeton, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Miss Kennedy was a member of the First United Methodist church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Gold Star.
She had taught school in Jasper County and had been employed as a bookkeeper at Knoke, Iowa.
The daughter of Henry V. and Martha Jane Blazer Kennedy, she was born May 26, 1888 on a farm in Jasper County and attended Jasper County rural schools and Newton Normal School.
