Thomas Maher, Former County Resident, Dies
Thomas J. Maher, 64, of 1617 E. Tucker St., Compton, Calif., a former resident of Jasper County, died Monday at the Lynnwood, Calif., Hospital.
Funeral services and burial will be held Thursday at Lynnwood.
Survivors are his wife, Erlene; a son, James Daniel of California; two daughters, Mrs. Janice Cave and Mrs. Jean Cline, both of California; four grandchildren; and a sister, Stacia Maher of California.
Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Mrs. Harry Awtry of Newton, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Stuart Ferguson and Mrs. Donald Nelson, both of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a number of brothers.
Mr. Maher, who farmed in the Baxter area for a number of years, was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton while residing in this area.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Maher, he was born in 1912 in Mingo and attended Mingo area schools.
He was married to Erlene Awtry in California in 1936.
