Oakley Cowman Dies Thursday; Rites Saturday
Monroe – Oakley Cowman, 75, of Monroe, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Monroe community, died Thursday at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Monroe.
The Rev. Jerry Wolcott; pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Walters-Coburn funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Mary; a daughter, Edna Monteith of LaPorte City; a sister, Letha Fouts; five half-brothers; and eight half-sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers and a half-brother.
The son of W. F. and Edna Horn Cowman, he was born May 5, 1900 at Marion.
He was married to Mary Kingery Oct. 6, 1920 at Oskaloosa.
