Helen Behrends Dies Tuesday; Services Friday
Mrs. Fred (Helen Irene) Behrends, 57, of 517 W. 2nd St. S., a resident of Newton since 1945, died Tuesday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church.
The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Survivors are her husband; mother, Mrs. Leo (Florence) Bruce of Newton; two daughters, Ms. Beverly Dupuis of Dana Point, Calif., and Mrs. Craig (Ronette) Haak of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a granddaughter, Alisa Griggs of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a grandson, Kenneth Griggs of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Bertha Behrends of Newton; a brother, Robert Bruce of Gretna, La.; and a sister, Ms. Bonnie Louise Blanton of Jacksonville, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1965, and a brother, John F., in 1973.
Mrs. Behrends was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church Women and was past president of the BPW.
Mrs. Behrends had been employed by Salmons Products and the Vernon Co.
The daughter of Leo M. and Florence Larson Bruce, she was born Mar. 12, 1918 at Geddes, S.D., was graduated from Chariton High School in 1935 and attended junior colleges at Chariton and Centerville and the Burroughs Business College in Des Moines.
She was married June 8, 1940 in Des Moines.
