Ethel Graffis Dies Friday; Services Today
Funeral services for Ethel I. Graffis, 73, of 527 1st Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1938, were held this morning at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Marvin Potter, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, conducted services. Burial was in the Hewitt Cemetery near Reasnor.
Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Arlie DePenning of Newton; three nephews, Kenneth Carpenter of Galesburg, R. K. DePenning of Newton and Lester DePenning of Dallas, Tex.; seven great-nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Graffis of Reasnor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Alva Graffis; and a sister, Mrs. Hattie Carpenter.
Mrs. Graffis, a member of the First Christian Church and the BPW was a longtime employe of Younkers Department Store in Newton.
The daughter of Allen and Tillie Winters Graffis, she was born May 29, 1903 in Galesburg and attended Galesburg schools.
